War and religion: the role of buddhists of Kalmykia, Tuva and Buryatia in the Great Patriotic War

War radically changes the usual way of life, penetrating into all its spheres, including such intimate ones as attitude to God and religious beliefs. In this regard, the theme of religion as the path to moral purity, and war as a stage for the theater of sin, deserves close attention. The article examines the role of representatives of the Buddha’s teachings in the Great Patriotic War on the example of three national republics — Kalmykia, Tuva, Buryatia. Brief characteristics of how Buddhism is presented in each of them are given. Statistical data are presented and analyzed, and the main points concerning the participation of these people in the Great Patriotic War are highlighted.
