East – West dialogue of cultures in the modern world on the example of Korean K-pop music

Against the backdrop of globalization and increasing interpenetration, establishing a dialogue between the Eastern and Western cultures appears to be the most necessary condition for existence of the humanity. Music is a universal means of such dialogue understandable to everyone. Globalization turned music into a tool in attracting the investment. This could be observed on the example of Korean pop (K-pop) arousing fascination and enthusiasm throughout the entire the world, including the Russian youth. The paper analyzes the K-pop music phenomenon and studies the Russian youth fascination in this genre. The study makes a conclusion that Russian youth are the passionate fans of the K-pop culture, and in the Russian Far East, this passion is much stronger.
