The paper presents a study of the cascade model as a design methodology and its introduction in creating a design concept for the multifunctional mini-loader. As part of the design research, the paper characterizes the target audience segments identified depending on the degree of their influence on the design and development. It describes the process of finding the mini-loader cover shape and illustrates the search for a color graphic solution for the product being developed taking into account the industry trends. Particular attention is paid to interaction between the operator and the loader, as well as to the problem of positioning (seating) the operator in the cabin taking into account the ergonomics issues. Solutions to each of the design problems and the design engineering methods used are being consistently described. The paper concludes on the cascade model design engineering relevance and effectiveness in the industrial design.
