Problems and prospects of stainless steel rolled metal production in Russia

This article raises the problem of production of stainless steel rolled metal products in Russia, the urgency of which is caused by the high level of import dependence in this industry (the percentage of imported stainless steel products reaches 79.4 % of total consumption) and the need to develop domestic production in the conditions of import substitution. Types of stainless steels, demand for this material, factors affecting the import dependence of stainless steel production and restraining the development of the domestic industry are considered, as well as possible directions for solving the problem and prospects for further development of this industry are determined. The results can be used in the development strategies of the metallurgical industry and import substitution programs.
