On the use of LED light sources in modern automotive headlamps

The characteristics of LED, halogen, and xenon light sources used in modern automotive headlighting systems are considered. Their energy, spectral, and operational characteristics are compared. Regulatory requirements related to the replacement of factory-installed halogen and xenon light sources with LED lamps are discussed. The conditions to be considered when retrofitting automotive headlighting devices are analyzed. The advantages and limitations of different types of automotive light sources are identified.
