Modification of the cooling fan clutch for a diesel engine

The paper presents results of studying the fan clutch and the viscous clutch. It considers types of the existing clutches and analyzes their role in operation of the vehicle engine. The paper identifies causes and consequences of the engine overheating, as well as main causes of the clutch wear. Two fan drive clutches are developed: the toothed and the friction. The paper proposes an optimal model for further development of the fan clutch full-scale model, i.e. the friction type. The developed friction clutch improves such characteristics as energy efficiency, reliability and service life. The engine overheating risk is reduced, which could significantly lower the vehicle maintenance cost. The clutch full-scale model was printed on the 3D printer. It becomes possible to install the friction clutch developed model in various vehicles (trucks, cars, special vehicles) with alteration in characteristics of the flange fastening, which makes it universal.
