The paper considers the problem of balancing an engine with the complex crank mechanism design. Using a universal analytical algorithm for analyzing the external balance, it indicates the inertia forces and moments arising in rotation of the crankshaft of a 6-cylinder V-shaped engine with the connecting rod journals offset by 48°. Values of the counterweights position angles for the first-order inertia moments and rotating masses are determined. The Stechkin — Katz criterion for assessing residual imbalance is used to determine values of the partially balancing moments created by counterweights on the shaft cheeks extensions. The problem of determining the counterweights position to ensure the minimum possible crankshaft mass is formulated. Based on the prototype engine layout the paper specifies geometric constraints of the problem. Possible options for positioning the counterweights are preliminary assessed; those promising are selected. The obtained simulation results are making it possible to form the crankshaft appearance. The paper presents conclusions and recommendations for balancing the analog engines.
