The paper presents experience in learning the industrial design elective course at the Youth Engineering Center in the Bauman Moscow State Technical University. It presents a brief curriculum elaborated by the author of the course. Particular attention is paid to developing skills in design research, rapid sketching, prototyping, and three-dimensional visualization. The course students are developing listed skills within the framework of their individual final project; illustrations thereof are given in the paper. The paper analyzes results of the students’ feedback on the course achievements obtained by the online survey of students regarding the course format. It concludes that introducing an applied course in industrial design is required in the industrial design university programme.
