The paper considers the concept of scenario analysis, its methodology and tools in the context of pre-project design research. The most common and effective forms of scenario analysis presentation are listed and illustrated. The author carried out a comparison of the scenario and situational analysis, indicating the specifics of each method. Brief characteristics of related tools-concepts borrowed from marketing are given. The paper revealed and explained the importance of scenario analysis not only for preliminary design research, but also for the entire further design process. The article is based on the works of both domestic and foreign theorists and practitioners. Conclusions are made about the need to use scenario analysis in the design of high-quality products.
