The main idea of the text is a method for restoring the profile of erosion of a solid surface by means of multilayer coatings is proposed. The atomization of the material is caused by ion bombardment of the sample surface. The pre-applied multilayer coating consisted of optically contrasting layers of two metals, copper and aluminum. In his paper the author showed that the method is based on processing of digital image of multilayer coating obtained by Carl Zeiss Axio Imager Z2m microscope in MATHLAB software package. Various defects were previously removed from the photo to simplify image processing. The author points out that the application of this method makes it possible to estimate the erosion profile of a multilayer coating treated with an inhomogeneous ion beam in the shortest possible time, which is an important advantage of the proposed method.
