The paper identifies features in the legal protection of intellectual rights to the works posted in the Internet. It defines the regulatory framework governing the use of objects in the Internet and their protection. Pros and cons of posting works in the network are formulated, and legal and technical means are presented to ensure protection of the objects from the unauthorized use and of the rights to them in case of the violation. Main types of the copyright infringement in the Internet are determined. As a result, the paper establishes that protection degree for an object posted in the network largely depends on the actions taken by the copyright holder. Besides, the paper formulates a list of actions recommended to accept in preventing violation of the rights to a work.
