The paper studies the problem of determining values of the inertial forces acting in the crank mechanism of an 8-cylinder V-engine with the articulated connected rods. It considers connecting rods within the framework of an equivalent concentrated two-mass system. Accelerations of the main and trailer connecting rods pistons are separated into components of the 1st and 2nd orders using the Fourier series. The paper assesses influence of the trailer connecting rod geometry on the piston acceleration and on the inertial force value; significance of the difference in the translational moving masses of the right and left rows of cylinders in determining the inertial forces is shown. It is found that the scheme using a trailer connecting rod provides an angular shift in the inertial forces hodograph, as well as a decrease in the values of these forces.
